Are DIY Cabinets the Right Choice for Your Kitchen Remodel?

Remodeling your home is a time-consuming and costly project, and this is especially true if you feel the need to do some work in the kitchen. If your kitchen remodeling project includes trying to replace cabinets, install new cabinets or even just reface the current cabinets, you might fall prey to a lot of stress and anxiety. That’s not to say you shouldn’t take the plunge and make sure your kitchen is as gorgeous as you want, but you should take note that this is a project that very likely is going to make you feel a bit crazed and a little overwhelmed from time to time. One way you can save money, but add time, on your kitchen remodel is by making the decision to go with DIY cabinets. It’s not a decision that should be made lightly, and it’s not one that everyone can handle. Are the Current Cabinets Salvageable?

One of the biggest questions to ask yourself is whether or not the cabinets you already have in your kitchen are worth keeping. Do not be fooled by their ugly appearance, however, and instead look to see what condition it is that they are in so that you know if they are in good condition or not. If they’re in good condition, they might be worth keeping instead of replacing.

Can they be Painted?

Do you want light cabinets, such as white or off-white? If you do, ask yourself whether or not the cabinets in your kitchen can be repainted. If they can be, you might want to forgo replacing them and instead paint them.

Can they be Stained?

Another alternative to replacing ugly cabinets is staining them. You can do this very easily and change the entire appearance of your cabinets with little to no effort.
