A Helpful Guide on How to Make Your Own Baking Powder

Children Prepare Christmas Cookies

In order to make any kind of baked goodies, there are some key ingredients that you need to have on hand. Those ingredients often include salt, sugar, flour and baking powder. Baking powder, which is different from baking soda, is a leavening agent that releases the gaseous CO2 in the midst of the baking process. In simpler terms, it’s what makes your baked good rise. After all, no one wants a flat cake!

How many times have you been inspired to bake or cook something delicious (like cookies, pies, cakes and even pancakes) just to go into your cupboard and find that you’re missing a key ingredient: baking powder! It’s a sad predicament, but luckily, there’s a fast and easy way to make your own homemade baking powder. It’s quick, simple, and chances are, you probably have all three (yes, just three little guys!) ingredients already in your kitchen.

Here are some quick tips on how to do it:

– Get the following things out of your cupboard: baking soda, cream of tartar and cornstarch. Make sure to also take out a bowl, sifter whisk and measuring cup.

– Measure out 1/4 cup of baking soda, 1/4 cup cream of tartar and 1/4 cup of cornstarch.

– Sift all the ingredients, which will help it prevent lumps from forming and able to incorporate the ingredients.

– Finally, stir the mixture together.

Ta da! And now you have homemade baking powder on your hands. How easy was that?!
