How to Peel a Pineapple Like the Pros Do

There’s nothing that gives us more of a connection to summer days even when it’s on the cusp of it becoming fall more than refreshing in-season fruits, like pineapple. The flavor and taste of pineapples go hand in hand with barbecues and grilling, as it’s a staple on the grill and at summertime BBQs. There’s nothing like sinking your teeth into the sweet and juicy yellow fruit that brings back memories of the summer season. As much as we enjoy pineapples, we are a bit perplexed on just how to peel it. It’s intimidating for some of us, as we don’t know the correct and easiest way to peel a pineapple.

Here’s how to peel a pineapple like the pros do:

– On a cutting board, place the pineapple on its side.

– Using a sharp chef’s knife, cut the crown (the bottom) and stem off the fruit, about a half inch or so into the pineapple.

– On one end, stand the pineapple upright. Slice the skin off the sides, from top to bottom, cutting as thinly as possible, so you don’t waste any bit of the fruit. Follow the contour of the fruit and cut it in a curve. Don’t remove the eyes (the brown spots) while you’re cutting the skin.

– Remove the eye spots by cutting into a V-shaped groove. The eyes spots line up in rows on the pineapple fruit.
