An Excellent DIY Recipe for the Shamrock Shake

St. Patrick’s Day is coming up in just a few weeks, and that means that the Shamrock Shake is back. And while everyone else takes a moment to enjoy their lives partying it up for the Irish holiday, I’ll be celebrating the fourth birthday of my little St. Patrick’s Day baby and we’ll have just celebrated the first birthday of our twins. I’ll be all caked and ice creamed out, but that doesn’t mean you will. So you might still want some Shamrock Shake, but it’s so much more fun to make at home. Also, most of us crave something like this late at night when it’s too dark or late to go out and buy one, so we should just learn to make it at home for that reason alone. With that in mind, we have a copycat recipe for the Shamrock Shake you can make from the comfort of your own home.

What You’ll Need

3 cups vanilla ice cream

1 ¾ cup milk

1 tsp mint extract

3 drops green food coloring

Here’s the best part about this recipe; you can make it anyway you’d like. This means that if you’re looking for something a little bit healthier, you can sub your ice cream for frozen yogurt and you can sub your regular milk for skim or even almond milk if you don’t mind a little flavor change.

Now that you have your ingredients on hand, stick them in a blender and blend until it’s creamy and done. Then pour your shake into a cup and enjoy. You might want to put some whipped cream on top or even top your shake with a cherry to make it a little more flavorful. You can make this anytime you want, too, and change the food coloring so that you can have it any time of the year for any holiday.
