Make sure you try out this recipe for BBQ sauce the next time you have a BBQ.

You’ll Need

1 cup onion minced
¼ cup vegetable oil
1 ½ cups of Dr. Pepper
15 oz crushed tomatoes
½ cup orange juice
¼ cup vinegar
½ cup honey
1 tsp. cayenne pepper
Salt to taste

Cooking Your Sauce

The first thing you’ll do once you gather your ingredients is to heat the vegetable oil over medium to high heat. Once you get this started you will simply add the onions to the oil and sauté them for approximately 5 minutes. You’ll want to stir the onions frequently to prevent them from burning and/or sticking to the pan.

Once the onions are finished, you will add the rest of the ingredients to the pan. Mix them well and let them simmer on low heat for a half hour. Once the half hour has passed you will pour your mixture into a food processer or blender and choose the puree option, working the sauce until it is completely smooth.

Once the sauce is completely smooth, you will then pour it back into the original pan and let it simmer for another 1 to 2 hours. Once it’s done, it’s ready to use. If you don’t need to use the entire batch, you can save the rest of the sauce in a freezer bag in the freezer for up to three months. If you choose to keep it in a Tupperware dish, you can do so for approximately three weeks in the fridge.
