How to Make an Easy But Delicious Spaghetti Sauce

Spaghetti is one of the biggest comfort foods in the world. There wasn’t a time in your life when you can’t look back and remember eating spaghetti with your grandparents or twirling your pasta around your fork and seeing how much you could fit into your mouth in comparison to your siblings while your parents looked on in complete disgust. Spaghetti is Italian, but it almost feels as all-American as food comes. It’s comfort; it’s home. It’s also delicious, which is where this amazing – but incredibly simple – spaghetti sauce recipe comes in handy.

What You Need

1 lb. ground beef (I prefer ground turkey, to be honest)
¼ cup chopped celery
1 chopped onion
2 ½ cups tomato paste
14 oz. diced tomatoes (drained)
2 tsp. sugar
2 tsp. chili powder
Salt and pepper, garlic powder, dried oregano, dried basil to taste

How to Prepare

Begin with your meat. Cook it in a skillet – large is good in this case – on medium heat until all the meat is browned. Strain your meat when it’s finished cooking and place it in a large crock pot. Add your long list of ingredients to the slow cooker and let I cooked on low for around 6 hours.

You can go a step further and toss four bay leaves on top for a bit of additional seasoning and flavor. However, I would not recommend doing this if you like a lot of seasoning to begin with. If you use very minimal “to taste” seasonings above, the bay leaves are a perfect addition. Just remember to remove the leaves prior to eating your sauce.

Serve your family cooked pasta, and add your sauce to the top. For a bit of extra flavor, toss some fresh parmesan cheese on top of your sauce. Some garlic bread on the side never hurts, either.
