body

Most people have a bucket list of things they want to do before they die, but how will you do those things if your body gives out on you? Sky-diving and bungee jumping and traveling the world aren’t as easy to do when you’re already dead. While having a bucket list is a great idea, having a body bucket list is an even better idea. After all, taking care of your body is the only way to guarantee you will be able to do anything on your regular bucket list. Read on to find out what 15 things you should put on your body bucket list.

Learn Your Ratios

Your waist to hip ratio is the best test for predicting your chances of having a heart attack. Measure your hips and your waist, divide the inches on your waist by the inches at your hip. Ideally, you want a ratio of no more than .08.

Get Your Iron

You need 18 milligrams of iron everyday to maintain optimum health. Without this amount of iron intake each day, you risk muddled brain functioning and a decreased immunity to illness. Get those iron rich foods into your system, stat.

Bye-Bye Artificial Sweeteners

They may taste good but the fact of the matter is that when you use artificial sweeteners you are increasing your chances of becoming overweight, which is just a bad idea all around. Must we really list all the bad things that come along with being overweight? I didn’t think so.

Practice Yoga

Yoga isn’t just a good way to exercise, it’s a great way to relieve your stress and increase your feelings of happiness. The hormones released into your body when you practice yoga can really increase your health and your overall body function.

Work Out

You know you need to work out to keep your body healthy, but you might not know exactly how much exercise you really need. You need at least 150 minutes per week of exercise to maintain your health, prevent weight gain and feel good about yourself. It’s not a lot. It’s approximately 22 minutes per day. You have 22 minutes per day.

body6

Eat Right

You don’t have to forgo eating the decadent stuff, you just have to do it in moderation. Want a Girl Scout cookie? Great; eat one. That’s the key. I know it’s hard to resist those delicious little cookies that appear only once a year, but don’t eat the entire box in one sitting. Easier said than done, I know.

body7

Drink Up

When you have coffee in the morning you are doing your body a favor. Not only does the caffeine wake you up, it’s also an antioxidant that helps fight cancer. Additionally, your coffee habit can improve your memory, increase your ability to learn and protect you from ovarian cancer.

body8

Unplug Yourself

If you spend more than five hours per day in front of the television or computer, you get 11 minutes less exercise everyday than people who don’t. Of course, if your job requires that you sit at a computer all day long you cannot help that, but you can unplug your stuff at home and get up and get active. It’s not that hard. Just pull that cord out of the wall. Really, anyone can do it.

body9

Take Your Vitamins

So they aren’t those fun little Flintstone chewable vitamins these days, but you still have to take them. Make it a point every morning to pop your vitamins before you pour your coffee. It might be the easiest thing you do all day long to protect your bodily health.

body10

Get a Pet

When you have a fuzzy little ball of fur (or a big one) your blood pressure will lower and your stress level will lower. This is good news for your health. Plus, if you get a dog, you have to walk him. When you walk him, you get exercise. Do you see how this is just a good idea all around?

body11

Put Green in Every Meal

Again, there shouldn’t be any need to elaborate any further on this one. When you eat vegetables (not just green; you need all colors) you can improve everything from your weight to your cholesterol to your mood to your energy level to your eyesight. Is that enough motivation?

body12

Wash Those Hands

It’s a good habit to have anyway, but you really need to wash your hands. The more you wash them, the less chance you have of getting sick. The less often you are sick, the better you will feel and the healthier your body will be.

body13

Laugh

It may not seem like something you do for your body, but laughter is great for your body. It lightens your mood, reduces stress and makes you all around happier. When you are happy and feel less stress, your immune system is stronger and your body is healthier.

Kiss

Oh yes, this is a fun one. It’s great for your body to kiss. It burns calories, makes you happier and it’s just plain fun. You’re a lot healthier when you’re burning calories and improving your mood. Nothing reduces stress quite like kissing that guy of yours.

body15

Smile

Well, this one is a little bit deeper than just smiling but it’s exceptionally important to add it to your body bucket list. Of course, you want to smile because when you smile it means you are happy. When you are happy, your stress level is lowered, your blood pressure is down and your body is filled with energy and health.
