What to do When Chapped Lips are Becoming a Problem this Summer

Summer is here, which means you’re finally free from chapped lips caused by the cold weather. Unfortunately, now you’re suffering from chapped lips for some other crazy reason. You might not understand why your lips are chapped this summer, but it’s not as uncommon as you might think to suffer from this seemingly cold-weather issue even when temperatures rise. Fortunately, dealing with chapped lips in the summer isn’t too difficult.

Drink More Water

If your lips are chapped in the summer, it’s a sign of dehydration. The first thing you need to do is take yourself into the kitchen and get a glass of water. Drink at least eight 8 ounce glasses of water every day to help prevent your lips from chapping and to maintain your best possible health. Dehydration can lead to problems far worse than chapped lips.

Stop Licking

Don’t lick your lips. If you’re hot and your lips are dry, put on some chapstick. If you prefer lipstick, buy lipstick with SPF in it as well as a built-in moisturizer. It will help you keep from feeling dry and wanting to lick your lips in the first place.

Use Olive Oil at Bed

This is such a great trick. If you find that your lips dry out and chap during the summer weather, apply a coat of olive oil to your lips at bedtime. During the day your lips will sweat out the oil and keep your lips feeling moist so that you don’t lick them or feel the chap.

Always Use Sunscreen

You have to have sunscreen on your lips just as much as you have to have it on your skin. Your lips can burn just as easily, which is why it’s so important to keep them covered when you’re out in the sun. You can find sunscreen in many different lipsticks, glosses and even chapsticks to make this a much easier feat.
