Fighting Childhood Obesity in Three Easy Steps

Childhood obesity is nothing to mess around with. If you have children of your own, it’s unlikely that you love your kids indulging in oreo cookies and chips and there’s no way you consider that acceptable or healthy. The problem, however, is that too many kids are at risk for childhood obesity simply because we as parents don’t understand that it’s not just oreos and cookies and soda that are making our kids fat. We keep them away from those things, not allowing our kids ever to taste a sip of soda and limiting junk food to birthday parties, but that’s not all that creates childhood obesity.

Breakfast

One of the biggest contributing factors to childhood obesity is the fact that many children skip breakfast. This is a major no-no when it comes to healthy children. Studies show that children who eat a well-balanced breakfast every day weigh less than children who don’t, have more energy and have a healthier overall lifestyle. Feed your child breakfast.

Bad Foods

Now that’s we’re talking breakfast, let’s understand that this does not mean plopping your child down in front of the television with a pop tart or sugar-laden cereal while you get ready. This means making sure your kids are eating healthy food. Scrambled eggs, toast, yogurt and fruit are just a few simple suggestions for breakfast foods that aren’t unhealthy.

Too Much Time Inside

Unless it’s raining and it’s literally impossible for your kids to play outside, they shouldn’t be indoors. Your kids need at least an hour of outdoor time that involves running around, playing and getting plenty of natural sunshine and exercise. Take them outside for a walk, a bike ride or just a friendly game of hide and seek or red light green light in the back yard to encourage healthy and minimize their risk of childhood obesity.
