Common Diet Myths Debunked

diet myths

Anyone who has ever been on a diet or attempted to make a healthy lifestyle change knows that there are many diet myths associated with healthy eating. Some of those myths are exercise myths and others are diet myths. Diet myths are everywhere, and if you don’t know which ones are fact and which ones are fiction, you might put your health at risk and your diet might not succeed.

Carbs are Bad – MYTH

There are two different types of carbs; complex and simple. Simple carbs aren’t so great for you (think eating plain old sugar for breakfast). However, complex carbs such as the ones found in vegetables are good for you. Your body needs them to properly function. Simple carbs are the ones you’ll typically find in unhealthy junk foods. They’re the ones that give you that feeling of being on a sugar high, and they’re the ones that aren’t so good for you.

Sleep is Good for Diet – FACT

The more sleep you get, the healthier you are. When your metabolism works hard and your body is fully rested and able to function at its best, you’re going to have a better time losing weight instead of gaining it. Studies show that women who sleep less than seven solid hours each night are more likely to put on weight than they are to lose it. This means it’s time for you to start adjusting your schedule so that you can get more beauty sleep.

Diet Labels are Good – MYTH

When food packaging promises that something is fat free or sugar free or low-cal, it’s still not good for you. In fact, it’s probably loaded with additional junk that’s horrible for your body so that manufacturers can state that this particular food is fat-free. For example, most foods considered fat-free are loaded with additional sugar to make up for the lack of taste.
