Four Habits that are Ruining Your Skin

Drink more water, don’t eat greasy food and wash your face every night before bed. These are the things every woman grows up hearing; they are simple secrets to lovely skin. If only gorgeous, glowing skin was as simple as passing on the French fries and having an extra glass of water every day. While this is all sound advice, the things you do each day may be sabotaging your skin, and no matter how many French fries you pass on, your skin may be getting worse. Four things you may or may not be doing on a daily basis are ruining your skin, and you don’t even know it.

Washing Too Much

Yes, the biggest mistake women make is going to bed without washing their face. However, the next biggest mistake they make is over-washing their skin. With so many cleansers, exfoliating scrubs, masks, peels and microdermabrasion treatments to choose from, many women are over cleaning their faces and destroying their skin. The best way to clean your skin is daily with a gentle cleanser. Women with normal skin should exfoliate once a week and women with oily skin should exfoliate twice per week.

Unhealthy Dieting

What you eat directly affects your skin. Think about it; if passing on fries can make your skin look better, what about everything else you are consuming? Eating a diet that is unhealthy or skipping meals to fit into that fabulous dress this weekend can wreak havoc on your skin. Both are depriving your skin of vital nutrients and vitamins that it needs to look healthy.

Smoking

Smoking is gross and it will kill you. That should be enough on the smoking conversation, but if it hasn’t managed to convince the masses to quit, a few more reminders might help. Smoking makes you smell gross, turns your teeth yellow, gives you bad breath, damages your hair and makes it smell, causes cancer and destroys your lungs. It also dries out your skin and makes you look more like your leather handbag than a healthy woman.

Not Getting Enough Sleep

When you don’t get enough sleep your body starts sending nutrients to organs that need them the most. Since many nutrients in your body form during sleep, when you are sleep deprived your skin is one of the first body parts to lose out on nutrients, which will make your skin look tired, sad and not at all glowing and gorgeous. You need at least eight hours a night of sleep to make your skin look its best.
