How To Indulge Your Sugar Cravings in a Healthy Manner

Cravings; they aren’t all pickles and ice cream and pregnant women. Almost everyone experiences cravings from time to time (before your favorite monthly visitor, perhaps?) and oftentimes those cravings are centered around sweets. Of course, it doesn’t help that there’s always some sort of holiday on the horizon in which sugary deliciousness is on every corner aisle at the grocery store and every social gathering you attend. If you have a hard time saying no to your cravings and feel bad about it later, these tips are for you.

Try Yoga

According to the author of Yoga Cures, Tara Stiles, yoga is a great way to reprogram your mind and put an end to your sugar cravings. By practicing yoga, you can end your sugar cravings while maintaining a feeling of calm happiness without indulging.

Trick Your Cravings

You can eat something that will satisfy your craving for sugar and sweetness without all the sugar. For example, raw honey is sweet and much healthier than sugar. You can swap some of the sugar in your favorite recipe with this ingredient and your body will never know the difference. However, it is important to keep in mind that honey is not the same consistency as sugar, which means you can only replace up to 1/3 of the sugar in your recipe with this healthy ingredient.

Add Salt

All right, this one doesn’t seem to make much sense, especially since sugar and salt are two very distinctive flavors. However, salt can be used to make naturally sweet foods taste even sweeter. For example, try sprinkling a little – remember to stick with a little, since salt has its own bevy of health concerns for those who consume too much – onto your favorite fruits to enhance the natural sweetness. Salt tastes good on watermelon, cantaloupe, or even a smoothie.
