Staying Healthy When You Are A Mom Healthy During Cold And Flu Season

Staying healthy when you are a mom during cold and flu season can be very difficult.  After all, you are the one that nurses everyone else in the family back to health when they have an illness.  This means that you are exposed to the germs they are suffering from in closer contact than other family members.  You also likely miss more sleep when you are up taking care of sick little ones.  You probably do all the heavy duty cleaning that includes sanitizing surfaces carrying many germs.  All of these factors tend to make staying healthy when you are a mom very difficult.

So what can you do to help you toward the goal of staying healthy when you are a mom?  You have to take care of yourself.  You are not only doing this for yourself but so you can be at your best for your family when they need you.

You can start by getting adequate sleep.  I very much understand how difficult this is, being a mother myself.  But it really is more important that you are well rested and that your immune system is strong than you having a perfectly immaculate home.

Wash your hands and use hand sanitizer often.  I make it a habit to stash hand sanitizer in my purse and in my car so that it is always in close range for me to use.

Taking a daily multivitamin and drinking a glass of orange juice each day can help you to be less likely of catching something.  If you feel something is coming on, it may even be beneficial to take some Echinacea or Zinc.  Of course, you should always discuss any medication changes you make with your physician.
