Stop Migraine Headaches Before they Start

If you’ve never suffered a migraine headache, consider yourself lucky and pray you never do (really, even if prayer isn’t your thing, it will be if you ever suffer from a migraine). A migraine is nothing short of debilitating. It takes everything out of you and lasts anywhere from a few hours to a few days. With a migraine on board, nothing else is possible. Unfortunately, they’re difficult to treat. The best you can do is learn to prevent them – and accept the additional health benefits that go along with it!

Get Your Beauty Sleep

The benefit of beauty sleep is that it does make you more beautiful – think prettier skin, fewer bags beneath your eyes and a much better mood the following day. However, it can also help to prevent a migraine headache from appearing. Adequate sleep for an adult is a minimum of seven to eight hours of solid sleep. This will help prevent migraines from occurring.

Don’t Skip Meals

One of the leading causes of headaches that turn into migraines is meal skipping. Don’t do it. It doesn’t do you any good on several levels. Not only can it cause a migraine headache to occur, it can also cause you to gain weight and binge eat later on. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day for your health. Eat something that’s filling and healthy, however, because eating donuts and pastries isn’t going to cut it.

Keep a Journal

If you are a frequent sufferer of migraines, the best thing you can do for yourself is keep a migraine journal. In it, write down everything you ate and did during the day. This will help you see what common factors might be contributing to your migraines. For example, for me, it’s sugar. When I have a particularly sugary day, I end up with a migraine and I have to be very careful.
