The Don’ts of Healthy Living

A healthy lifestyle is a choice that many people make. We often talk about the dos of healthy living. Do eat healthy foods. Do eat in moderation. Do exercise regularly. What we don’t talk about as much are the don’ts of living a healthy life. You know what to do, now it’s time to find out what not to do.

Don’t Starve Yourself

One of the worst things you can do for your body is go hungry. So what if you feel thinner because you didn’t eat breakfast; it’s not healthy. You need to eat at every meal. Do not allow your body to go into starvation mode or it will backfire on you. It will panic your body into thinking it needs to reserve the fat you already have stored, so you won’t actually lose any weight this way.

Don’t Create Too Many Restrictions

When you deprive yourself of the things you really want, you might succeed at first. You’ll feel good about not eating that brownie, but only for a little while. Before too much time has passed, you will probably eat that brownie plus another one. You might even eat more. If your body wants something, like a brownie, eat the brownie. Just stick to the one and you’ll be fine.

Give Up

Everyone has a bad day from time to time. Maybe you make a mistake at work and that day isn’t a good one. Do you quit your job and hide out at home? Maybe you upset someone in your family one day and that day isn’t a good one. Do you run away from home and abandon your family? If you have a bad day of exercise or a bad day of eating the good stuff (or too much of the bad stuff), you might feel like giving up. Do you head to the store and buy every candy bar and ice cream carton in sight? No. You dust yourself off and start from scratch. Don’t give up.
