The Dos for Living a Clean, Healthy Lifestyle

It seems that newest trend in life is living a clean, healthy lifestyle. There are so many different recipes and advice columns and articles about clean eating, all natural foods and going completely green. While this is all great and wonderful, I think that sometimes the best way to live a clean, happy life is to live a healthy life and I don’t believe that fad diets and trend-eating is the way to do it.

Exercise

First and foremost, you have to exercise. The expert recommended amount of exercise you need is a minimum of 150 minutes per week. That’s not a lot; it’s less than half an hour a day. I think that the more active people are, the healthier their bodies, the healthier their minds and the happier their life. Exercise is a pretty clean and healthy way to live, don’t you think?

Eat in Moderation

Let’s get something straight; I have absolutely no problem with eating junk food. What I have a problem with is people who eat it regularly and then claim they need to lose weight and start a fad diet. You can eat cookies and ice cream and drink beer; just do it in moderation. Eat a cookie, not all the cookies. Have a serving of ice cream, not all the servings of ice cream. There’s no reason you cannot be fit, healthy and happy while still eating the stuff you really love.

Eat Healthy

Now that you know you need to keep the unhealthy stuff in moderation, know that you need to eat more of the good stuff. In my family, we have a rule at the table; ¾ of each plate is vegetables and the other ¼ is meat and/or starch. We also don’t have “side dishes” on a regular basis, at least in terms of unhealthy dishes. Our sides are our vegetables. Edamame, broccoli and carrots are favorites in this house and you’ll notice that they take up the majority of the plate. It’s a good, healthy way to live a happy life without too much sacrifice or any crazy diets. Remember – more often than not, simple is always the best way to go.
