Tips for Losing Weight and Making a Healthy Lifestyle Change

Losing weight and getting healthy requires making a lifestyle change for the rest of your life. Diets don’t work – at least that’s my (un)professional opinion. It seems easier to me to eat right all the time and work out regularly than to deprive yourself of certain foods or get caught up in some sort of crazy fad every few months. After all, when you do something regularly, it becomes a habit. That’s why I think that getting fit and healthy requires utilizing these three healthy tips.

Snack

There’s no point in denying your body the food it needs and wants to work properly. When you are hungry and you deny yourself a meal, all you are doing is slowing down your metabolism and encouraging your body to store fat. That’s not good. Instead, eat a snack; a healthy snack. A bowl of edamame, a piece of fruit, or even a stick of cheese will help fill you up and provide your body with the nutrients it needs without making you feel gross.

Change Portion Sizes

Instead of making your dinner plate so that it’s mostly meat and starches with a little helping of veggies, make the veggies the main course. Add a piece of lean meat and skip the starch all together. Instead of a meat, potatoes, and veggies meal, make it a meat and veggies meal. You’ll be satisfied and full, without the extra calories. Once you get used to eating this way, you might actually feel sick when you don’t eat enough vegetables on any given day.

Eat Breakfast

When you eat something healthy in the morning, such as a piece of wheat toast with peanut butter or jelly, you will feel full longer, jump start your metabolism and make yourself happier. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day; your mom wasn’t making that up when you were a child.
