Decorating Your Home as a Couple

Now that you’re married, engaged or you recently moved in together, it’s time to decorate your new home; as a couple. The idea might be a bit daunting. Decorating as a couple surely gives you tiny heart palpitations. However, you don’t have to go to any crazy route; you can decorate as a couple and ensure that your new home looks chic, comfortable and couple-like without sacrificing style.

Go Through Your Things

You must do this as a couple. You need to go through your furniture, his furniture and all your belongings. There are going to be things that you dislike with a passion and things he doesn’t want publicly displayed in your home. This is going to be a difficult task, but you have to do it together. Create a pile of things you both like, things that HAVE to go, and things that you can work with if you need to.

Shop Together 

Now that you know what you have and what you need, go shopping together. This allows you to decorate your home as a couple because you both have ample input as to what you put into your home. Without agreement, you can’t buy anything and decorate with it. It eliminates each of you coming home with items the other hates, arguing, hurting feelings or pretending to compromise while really just hiding your feelings and building resentment with one another.

Meet in the Middle

Perhaps, if you really cannot create a solution to your decorating issues, you can meet in the middle. This might mean choosing something completely neutral for the main areas of your home and individually decorating a specific room. For example, perhaps you can do whatever you want with no say from your partner when it comes to decorating your home office. No one can say anything and it’s all yours.
