gardening

Gardening is such a great idea, but there are so many pitfalls to it. For one, what if you are not and experienced gardener? Will you kill everything you try to grow? Add to that the fact that gardening supplies are so expensive, you might as well just give it up. I mean, it’s not cheap to garden, but it’s also not something you want to spend a lot of money learning to do if you’re not sure you’re going to love it or even have an aptitude for it. So with that in mind, we thought we’d bring you some solutions. We like the idea of gardening. It’s a good hobby to have. It makes the world just a little bit lovelier, and it’s good for your finances if you grow your own edible foods. With that in mind, we have a few gardening supplies you can get free of charge to help you get your garden started without spending a dime. It’s not even an investment, but it’s a great start.

Seeds

Connect with your local garden club to ask members for seeds. Because these are people that love what they do, they will be very happy to go ahead and make sure that you have what you need, and they’re not going to charge you a dime to have it.

Containers

You do not need containers from the nursery to start your garden. You can use butter bins, other plastic bins and things you find in your house or in the local recycling bin. It’s simple; all you do is take what you need and wash it out so that you can use it to plant.

Mulch or Wood Chips

Your local lawn companies know that buying this stuff by the bag is expensive, so they have a waiting list. When they are in your area, you will get their mulch and wood chips when they’re done and you are next on their list. They’ll even drop it off for you.

Compost

Compost is a vital part of successful gardening. It helps us improve soil quality, and fine-tune the balance of specific nutrients and moisture, required by specific plants. It’s really not expensive, and it’s something you can do. You need scrap leaves and things from the yard, and old food that’s no longer any good. It’s so easy to make that you can do it yourself after dinner.

 Veggies

You can actually use the scraps from dinner to make your own garden. Things like carrots and other vegetables can be replanted to form a garden, which means that you’re paying for dinner one night, but not a garden. It’s a great way to get started.
