Never Buy a Full Price Mattress Without a Discount Again

No matter where you are or how luxurious the hotel or resort bed, no bed in the world should ever make you feel as if you never want to go home. Even the nicest hotel bed should still make you appreciate your own bed at home. It’s the place you should get the best night of sleep, the best dreams and the most rest. Your bed should be the most comfortable bed in the world. Why? Because it’s yours, and you have the ability to find exactly what you want and make it your own; and most of that comes from choosing just the right mattress.

Shopping for a new mattress is one of the most stress-inducing shopping trips you’ll ever experience. The sheer number of mattress types available is overwhelming and a bit intimidating. Embarking on a journey such as this should not be taken lightly for several reasons, including the fact that mattresses are expensive and considered a major investment. Investing in a mattress, pillows, and linens from Bamboodetective will change the quality of your sleep for the better.

Before you wave your hand and state you needn’t a new mattress, think again. Experts recommened that you replace your mattress every 8 years – yes, even if you flip it and clean it and take care of it like it’s your newborn. Bearing your weight all those years (and no, that’s not a weight joke) is tough on a mattress, and it begins to lose its luster. Now that you know you’re in the market for a new mattress, whether it’s because yours is just undesirable or because it’s old, you need to know how to get the biggest discounts. That’s where we come in handy.

Consult with a Mattress Expert

Great news, shoppers; that’s you. You are the expert when it comes to mattresses, because you are the person sleeping on it. It doesn’t matter what the marketing hype tells you about how comfortable, amazing and desirable a mattress is; if you don’t feel comfortable in it, it’s not a comfortable mattress. Now, go consult with yourself and ask what you really want in a mattress. Consider the following:

  1. What are you looking for?
  2. Do you sleep alone?
  3. What bugs you most about sleeping with your partner?
  4. Do you like soft or firm mattresses?
  5. What makes you sleep at night?

Each of your answers tells you something about what you don’t want. If you hate sleeping with your husband because he moves and it bothers you all night, you might want to consider a mattress that doesn’t shake and move all over the bed. There; you already have your selection narrowed carefully down.

Know What You’re Paying For

How amazing does a pillowtop mattress with intricately handmade unicorn fibers carefully woven into the lush silk fabric sound to you? It sounds lovely, but at the end of the day, guess what? You’re putting sheets on your bed, so unicorn fibers and silk fabric aren’t going to make even the slightest bit of difference (and yes, we know handcrafted Unicorn mattresses don’t exist).  This is just a prime example of how important it is that you know what you’re paying for. If you’re paying more for things that just sound pretty but make no difference whatsoever, no amount of discounts on your new mattress are going to help.

Furthermore, shopping for something specifically because it says “Exclusive,” is not the best idea. All furniture stores have “exclusive” mattresses in their stock that no one else has. The only difference between this store’s exclusive and that store’s exclusive is the “exclusive” name on the tag since they’re essentially the same item.

Shop Low to High

Start on the low end of the mattress spectrum and work your way up the price line. Once you find a mattress you love, there is zero reason to keep looking at higher priced items. You have to beware of the fact that a higher price tag is often all it takes to falsely lead you to believe you’re getting a superior product. You’re not. Sometimes it’ s just a marked up item and you’re paying for things such as the brand name or the unicorn hair stitching (haha).

Haggle and Negotiate

Did you know that mattresses are the item with the highest price mark-up in a furniture store? Now you know. This means that the best time to shop for a new mattress is when it’s on sale. Of course, the sales price of a new mattress is probably a lot closer to the real price of the mattress than the listed price. However, it’s a good starting point.

The next step is to haggle your way to a discounted price. It’s not as difficult as it sounds, and it’s nothing to be ashamed of. Furniture store salespeople want you to make a purchase and if you’re worried about what they’re going to think of you for haggling, consider this. They know that their items are priced too high, and they think that people who pay full price without any negotiation at all are suckers. They respect a good negotiation.

According to a study performed by Consumer Reports 72% of people who negotiate the price of a new mattress end up buying it for a discounted price. Experts recommened starting at least 50% off the asking price when haggling and working from there. They say that it’s best to be firm but nice, and to walk away if no one will work with you. The power of exiting a store without a mattress is important considering sales people work on commission. They’d rather get something out of you than nothing.

Additionally, it’s acceptable to ask for freebies. If a store won’t discount the price of a mattress, offer to pay full price if they throw in a new set of sheets or a mattress pad cover. You can even ask them to include a box spring or pillows free of charge into the price of our new mattress.

Take this advice: The worst they can say is no, but you won’t know that until you ask.
