Simple Tips on Making Decorative Push Pin or Thumbtack Art

Thumb tack/push pin art is something that anyone can do, and it’s fairly clever. It can make an awesome addition to any classroom as a work of art (probably less so as a project designed for smaller kids. We’re pretty certain giving small kids small pointed objects seems like an idea that might not go over well) or a fun project to work on with your kids to give to grandparents on a special holiday. There are a number of reasons you might want to partake in this type of art project on any given day, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t use a few tips and tricks that will make your art project a bit more productive, and a bit easier on you. These tips won’t turn your artwork into a Picasso, but they will help it look less like something your toddlers created.

Sketch Your Design

The first thing you want to do is sketch your art design on a piece of canvas so that you can then see that you are doing without being blinded to the entire process. You can even, if you want trace the concept from a piece of paper on the canvas to make things easier on you.  We really recommend you don’t skip out on this part of the project if you want to create something worthwhile.

Frame Your Artwork

If you are not using a wide canvas, you might want to consider using a frame since you will need to have something cover the back of your artwork. This is going to help you keep the pins secure from prying fingers, and keep your family safe in case they decide to touch it. If you’re not using a frame, you will want to find a way to secure your pins in the back so no one gets hurt.

Sign your Art Work

Just because it’s not professionally done does not mean that you shouldn’t sign your artwork. Just a little scribble in the corner of the bottom is all it takes, because you’re going to want people to know who created this fabulous piece of art.
