Ways to Keep Your House Warmer Without Turning Up the Heat
The cold weather is coming, if not here already, for a lot of us, no doubt about that. Extra blankets have been broken out, tank tops switched for sweaters, and sandals swapped for boots and warm socks. We haven’t turned the heat on in my house yet, but the day is quickly coming. Unfortunately, turning up the heat can be expensive and not all of us have the extra money to keep our homes toasty warm. If you fall into this category then I have some awesome tips you might appreciate to help keep your house warm without turning up the thermostat.
- Plastic Your Windows. You can buy plastic for windows at any home improvement store and this can make a big difference, especially if you have an older house like I do. The plastic helps keep the warm air in and stop any drafts.
- Blankets & Curtains. Break out the extra blankets to keep in the living room and bedroom. Not only will they keep you warm while you lounge, the fabric will absorb the heat and keep it in the room. Curtains do the same thing and it’s a good idea to have thicker curtain for the colder months as they will help lock in the warmth. Rugs are also good for this so if you have all hardwood or tile, you might want to consider some throw rugs.
- Light candles. You might not think a candle can do much, but if you keep a couple of candles lit in the room you’re in it can help keep you at least a little bit warmer, especially if you allow them to burn for awhile. Incense also have this effect, so if you don’t mind the smoke this is also a good option.
There you have it, some simple, cost-efficient tips that I hope can help you stay cozy this winter.
