In honor of a special man who passed away, people across the nation have been performing acts of kindness to remember him by. On March 19, 2013 Corey Moximchalk was killed in a horrific car accident in Mount Pleasant. He was a passenger in a car that was speeding and was ejected from the car.
“My brother was a very kind hearted, very generous. He might not have $2 in his pocket but he would’ve given you everything he had,” said Kara Ratai, Corey’s sister.
Now, on the anniversary of his death, his family wanted to remember him by asking people for random acts of kindness. In order for the family to get over the first anniversary of the passing of their son/brother/relative, they wanted to make his death a positive one. They took to Facebook and ask people to do random acts of kindness. When you do the act, you share the hashtag #KindnessForCorey and post it to the Facebook page. Within 24 hours, random acts spread all over the nation, including Pennsylvania to Virginia, North Carolina and Oregon.
The random acts were astonishing: some donated their money to charity, while others tipped generously on their restaurant bills. Balee Wahl, a waitress in Somerset, was one of the lucky recipients. She received a fifty dollar bill for a $32 check on one of her shifts at the restaurant.
“I was speechless. I was like, ‘Oh my goodness, how does this even happen?’ I believe it’s good karma coming full circle and it’s amazing what these people are doing because it honestly makes everyone’s day,” Wahl said.
And Wahl isn’t the only one: At Brady’s Restaurant in Acme, Christina Caruso received a large tip from a man offering to pay for three people’s meals.
“His only request was to write on the slips #KindnessForCorey and tell them someone had paid for them,” the waitress said.
Strangers aren’t the only ones getting in on the action. Corey’s 5-year-old niece kept it all in the family when she bought her teacher and a crossing guard at school a cup of hot chocolate.
Somewhere out there, Corey is looking down and smiling – a little kindness goes a long way!
