Three Time Management Traps to Avoid

Time management is something the vast majority of us have a small problem with. You think you have all day to get things done and before you know it, it’s time to go to bed and the majority of your to-do list is left undone. Time management isn’t easy to deal with when you have a life (you know, those things called spouses and jobs and kids and houses). However, if you don’t stop making the basic time management mistakes, you’re never going to learn to relax.

Procrastination

Sure, it can wait for tomorrow. But then tomorrow you’re going to wake up and mentally hate yourself for making this common time management mistake. Maybe you’re not looking forward to doing what needs doing, but tomorrow when it’s done and you don’t have to worry about it, you’re going to feel a lot better about yourself. You might even find a little time to relax.

Distractions

When something needs doing, put your distractions away. Turn off the television or radio, leave your phone somewhere you can’t see it or reach it and get to work. Time management is all about how you utilize your time; and if you’re stopping your work on the laundry every 30 seconds to respond to text messages, you’re not managing your time very well.

No List

I might be speaking for myself here, but making a to-do list is the greatest part of my day. It helps me see what I have to accomplish and feel the accomplishment of actually crossing tasks off my list when they’re complete. Nothing makes me feel more productive or successful. If you’re looking for a way to improve your time management skills, make yourself a to-do list and challenge yourself to cross everything off of it before the day is out.
