What Not to Do to Get Ahead in Life

Getting ahead in life is the basic goal that most people have in common. Getting ahead means a lot of things for a lot of people. For some it means becoming wealthy and successful. For others it means achieving financial independence. For some, it means realizing their dreams and making their life exactly what it is they want it to be. However, getting ahead is still the goal. We want to be the best at work, the best at this and the best at that. Most of us are willing to do what it takes to get ahead, but there are a few things we should never do just to get ahead in life.

Sacrifice Your Happiness

Success requires sacrifice from time to time. It may occasionally require a missed event or a late night or a trip that takes you away from your family. What it shouldn’t do, however, is require you to sacrifice your happiness in life for the promise of future success. When you realize that you’re no longer happy at all, it’s time to stop trying to get ahead and just start trying to live happier.

Strive for Perfection

Perfection is not what helps people along in life. In fact, perfection often stops people right in their tracks and makes life more difficult. There’s no such thing as perfection and if that’s what you’re striving for to make it in life, you’re never going to make it.

Take the Short Way

When you look for a shortcut to happiness and success, you’re not going to find it. If you really want something, you have to work hard to earn it and achieve it. There is no shortcut to success that’s worth it. Those shortcuts often require stepping over people and hurting them, sacrificing your dignity and your beliefs and becoming a person with whom you’re not happy.
