The good news about happiness is the fact that you are in complete control over yours. When you wake up each morning, you get to choose your mood and the kind of day you’re going to have. The bad news is that it’s not always possible for everyone to make the conscious decision to be happy on a daily basis without some struggle and conflict. If you are interested in being an overall happier person, you’ll want to practice little things each day that will increase your happiness on a daily basis.

Wake up at the Same Time Each Day

When you rise early, you’ll be surprised just how much happier you feel throughout the day knowing you were up early preparing for your day. Sit quietly and enjoy your tea or coffee, make a list of what needs doing today and get a head start on it. By the time 9 am rolls around and you’ve completed a few daily tasks, including spending a little time with yourself before the rest of your house rises, you’ll feel so much more accomplished.

Get Moving

Exercise is a natural high. It increases the good hormones in your body and decreases the stress hormones your body produces. You need a little bit each day to get you feeling really good. Try walking for 20 minutes, doing some stretches or just practicing yoga (dancing with your kids is always a fun way to get moving, too).

Prepare the Night Before

It’s so much easier to choose happiness and live happier each day if you prepare the night before. Finishing the laundry or unloading the dishwasher and preparing lunches and clothes the night before means you have less to do when you wake up, which makes your to do list shorter and your stress level lower. It’s an instant happiness booster.

Give Real Kisses

If your husband is leaving for work or your kids are leaving for school, give them real hugs and kisses. The meaningful kind that they will remember throughout the day that make them feel good; it’s a great way to connect with them and make yourself feel happier as well. It makes you feel closer to your loved ones.

Smile

The simple act of smiling is almost always enough to get you in a better mood and make you happier. The more you practice smiling throughout the day, the happier you will feel. Even if you’re in a rush and not in the mood to smile at the barista, just do it. You’ll feel instantly better about yourself.
