Stay Happy No Matter How Busy You Are

Being busy can mean several things. It can mean you lead a highly fulfilling life, you have kids and a job and a spouse and friends and everything in between, or that you have a difficult time saying no. Being busy isn’t a bad thing all the time, but it can sometimes make life a little less enjoyable. Sometimes – when you have kids, for example – being busy can’t be helped, but other times it can. If you find yourself a little unhappy or deprived because of your busy schedule, you’re going to need to make some changes. Here are a few ways to stay happy despite how busy your day to day life is.

Meet Your Own Needs

If you skip out on meeting your own basic needs, such as getting a daily shower and having a few minutes to put on the makeup you want to look good or ironing your clothes so you feel confident, you’re going to be unhappy. You have to always meet your own needs, whatever they are, no matter how busy you are. If you’re not meeting them, it’s time to start.

Pay Attention to Your Emotions

Your emotions are a big indicator of how you really feel. If you’re feeling emotionally drained, frustrated or unhappy, you’re busy schedule is getting to you. Additionally, you might find yourself losing your temper or becoming easily angered or upset when things don’t work out as planned or go your way. This means you’re taking on too much and it’s time to scale back.

Be Realistic

You can do anything you set your mind to, but you cannot do everything. No one can do everything. If you’re working from home, taking care of four kids, making sure your house is clean, coaching your daughter’s cheerleading squad, volunteering for committees at church, spending time with your husband and friends and maintaining yourself and your kids and your husband’s schedules, you might be overwhelmed on occasion (I know it happens to me every so often). Be realistic with your goals; you cannot take on coaching your daughter’s softball team in addition to all of this. Neither do you have time to say yes to volunteer on another committee if you want to stay sane with your already hectic schedule. Be realistic with your goals.
