Tips To Make Moving Easier On Your Family

Everyone knows that moving is a huge job.  The good news is there are ways to make it an easier event for your family to handle.  The trick is to simplify.

What do I mean simplify?  Make everything as easy as possible.  Many times we cause ourselves more work than necessary.

The first thing you should do is pack the items that are seldom used or that are out of season.  If you are moving in the summer, it is probably a pretty safe bet that you can pack up your family’s winter clothing.  The same goes for the Christmas tree and other winter items.  Of course, this can be reversed if you are moving in the summer.

Label each box as you go.  Most people know to label what room a box is destined for, but how about taking an extra moment to label what is in the box?  It can be helpful to know what box contains your cleaning supplies rather than digging through every box marked ‘kitchen’ when you arrive at your new home.

Take care of business.  Call ahead and make arrangements for your satellite or cable.  Find out where the best grocery store and dry cleaners is in your new area.  Ask your family doctor and pediatrician to recommend a new physician in your new area.  Take care of school registration for your children and ask for permission to have a walk through of the school before your child’s first day to help them have less anxiety.  Order address labels and checks with your new address and phone number on them.  Update your driver’s license if necessary. You may also book a home removals company in advance to ensure you’ll have the help you need on your moving day.

Stock up on supplies like paper plates and cups for the first few days after moving into your new home.  Buy foods that are easy to fix, like frozen pizzas or ready-made salads.  You will need the extra time for unpacking.

With these tips, you will soon be settled in and the stress of moving will be behind you.
