Don’t Let Chapped Lips Be A Problem This Fall And Winter Season

Chapped lips are something that most of us deal with to some extent every winter season.  But it does not have to be that way.  There are things that you can do to treat and prevent this painful condition.

Chapped lips occur because they are dry.  Therefore the best way to deal with them is to keep them moist.  This can be done by keeping product on them.  The best products are ones that are very moist such as lip glosses, lip butters and lip balms.  Lipstick is not as good as the other products at keeping your lips moist.  This is especially true if the lipstick is a long wearing product because they are dryer formulas.  Regular old Chapstick is a great staple to have in your purse too.

Apply your lip product regularly.  Good times of the day to apply it are in the morning, after lunch and in the evening.  You also may want to keep a lip balm on your nightstand to wear at bedtime.

The other contributing factor to chapped lips is dryness caused by not drinking enough.  We tend to think that we need extra hydration in the summer and that is true but we also need it in the winter months.  In the winter, there are factors that contribute to dry skin and lips such as your heating system and the cold winter air.

You can also help your lips to stay in tip-top shape by exfoliating them on occasion.  You can purchase pre-made products for this purpose or make your own sugar scrub.  Try mixing a bit of brown sugar and honey together.  Add a bit of a kitchen type oil if you need to thin it.
