What Your Body Language Conveys

body language

It’s true that your actions speak louder than your words, and this includes your body language. How you present your body says a lot more about you and your thoughts and feelings than the words coming out of your mouth. However, most people don’t realize that the arch of their back, the direction of their crossed legs and their arm placement are telling a story all their own. Read on to find out what your body language conveys to others.

The Head Tilt

When you tilt your head to one side during conversation, the person with whom you are conversing is likely to think that you are interested in what they have to say. It also exposes your neck, which others take as a sign of trust. If you’re looking to build trust and appear interested in something someone has to say, make sure to tilt your head. It doesn’t matter if you go left or right.

Your Smile

What your lips do says more than what comes out of them. If you’re smiling, people will assume you’re more open and engaging. However, depending on the other factors of your smile, you might be conveying a completely different message. Turning your chin down and tilting your head to the side while smiling is often taking a flirtation. Smiling with your lips closed can indicate that your smile is not genuine, but forced. Smiling can mean many things, but you should always be aware of what exactly that might be.

Your Fists

When you clench your fists, it indicates that you are determined, resistant or even aggressive. Most people use their hands freely to engage others, but those who clench their fists and keep them to their sides or cross their arms are not conveying a friendly message. Watch your hands when you speak if you want to appear friendlier.
