Everyone, it seems, wants to find a way to make more money, work from home or be their own boss. I’ll tell you what; it’s nice. But it’s not always easy. In fact, sometimes it’s a challenge. You do not have the comfort of having gainful employment with a contract every single day and the expectation that you’re to be here at this time each and every day. Those of us fortunate enough to find a steady job freelancing are among the very, very lucky ones. Others have to work hard every single day just to find work, and they don’t always know when they will be able to land a gig and make any money. It’s not a fun situation. On the other hand, the knowledge you have unlimited possibilities when it comes to work is priceless. You can do anything you want, make as much as you want and work as hard as you want on a daily basis.
Most of us know where to go to find freelance work. But there is one place that people never seem to think to use, and that’s Reddit. I’ll be honest, I’m not even sure – still – how to use Reddit or what it’s even about. It’s like hashtags; I knew for a long time that they were there and that they did something, but I couldn’t figure out the purpose behind it for quite some time. Reddit, to me, is the same way. But it’s a great source of income for those who are in the market for freelance jobs. And since not many people are aware of this at the moment, the competition is pretty slim right now.
So, how do you do it? It’s simple, and I’ll walk you through the process so that you can make it your own personal goal to earn a lot more money in very little time. Here you go.
Sign up
You need an account with Reddit if you plan on making any money through them. This is the simple process and, yes, it’s free. Just head to the Reddit website and find the ‘sign up’ logo, click on it and enter the very minimal information that is asked of you. It takes very little time, but it has a very large impact on your life. Go for it, and be proud of what you will accomplish.
Be professional
One of the issues that many people do not consider when making an account with Reddit is that you want a professional username. Sometimes it’s fun to use your nickname or something you feel describes you, but using the username, “10beersin10minutesandIamgood” is probably going to receive a much less professional audience than “JamesBrown123” since that’s more professional. I know that I’d give a job to someone named James before someone who can drink 10 beers in 10 minutes. But I might invite that guy to be the entertainment at my next party.
Find subreddits
These are pages that are owned for certain issues. You will need to do some research to find the ones that apply to jobs in your particular niche. For example, there are plenty of subs for writers, such as /r/writingopportunities. There will be subs for specialized niches if you just know where to look for them. This might require a bit of networking on your part, but that’s what the job market is all about in any industry.
Know the rules
There are plenty of rules when using this site, and when using specific subreddits. Your best bet is going to be to get to know these so that you can do yourself a big favor and be sure you’re using them the right way. We recommend that you learn the rules and the regulations of anything you sign up for before you sign up for it. This is going to help you prevent yourself from making a silly mistake and being banned from an area. You do not want to deal with that.
Be quick
The best thing you can do to land freelance work with Reddit is respond quickly. It’s a good idea to respond quickly because you never know when you will be beaten to the punch. Sometimes you are the first person to respond to an ad for a freelance job and other times you are not. Don’t wait, however, since most people will find what they are looking for and go with that. If you’re able to respond right this second when you find a job posting that interests you, you increase your chances of being hired.
One good way to ensure that you are always on the up and up is to check your postings first thing in the morning. Many people are busy doing other things at this point, so setting aside some time to see what’s open and what’s available could really make a huge difference in your life. This is what is going to allow you to earn the most money and make you the most successful.
Be professional
Finally, and I shouldn’t have to remind anyone of this, always maintain an air of professionalism. You do not want to end up being unprofessional at all, so you need to keep this in mind. We know you’re not using inappropriate language or anything of that nature, but it is sometimes easy to forget to use spell check or that you’re not sending a quick message to your kids in which abbreviated language is acceptable.
Maintain professionalism, but precise and concise, and be on top of your game. When someone responds to you favorably, be sure to respond to them immediately. This shows them that you are accountable, and that you are serious about wanting real work. Now all that is left is to log on or sign up and get to work. Don’t be discouraged if you do not get every job, either. Sometimes that’s just the way the world works, and you have to keep trying even harder.
