5 of the Best On-Screen Presidents

With the President’s Day holiday happening this weekend, it’s a great time to reflect on those who have guided and led our great United States of America throughout history. After all, it’s only right to give credit to the greats whom many of us should be thankful we get a three-day holiday for! Hollywood has made a number of movies and TV shows featuring both real and fictional leaders of the U.S.

Here’s a list of 5 of the best on-screen presidents:

1. Bill Pullman as Thomas J. Whitmore in Independence Day

There’s no other president we’d like to experience an alien invasion with than the fictional President Whitmore – and it may or may not be just because we love Bill Pullman!

2. Geena Davis as Mackenzie Allen in Commander-in-Chief

The now-defunct ABC TV  show was ahead of its time, casting a woman as the President of the United States. Former League of Their Own and Thelma and Louise star Geena Davis plays the part as confident and awe-inspiring. Perhaps life will imitate art soon?

3. Daniel Day Lewis as Abraham Lincoln in Lincoln

Academy Award nominated star Daniel Day Lewis is a spitting image of our 16th president in this great Steven Spielberg-directed movie.

4. Harrison Ford James Marshall in Air Force One

Indiana Jones as the leader of our great nation? We vote yes! Harrison Ford as president has us wondering why he hasn’t campaigned for the position yet.

5. Michael Douglas as Andrew Shepherd in The American President

This Rob Reiner-directed film starred Michael Douglas as a fictional widowed president who is doing well at his job, but is missing one important thing in his life: love. Who cannot help but love Michael Douglas as the president?!
