Why Allison Williams Will Be a Great Peter Pan

HBO's Post 2014 Golden Globe Awards Party - Red Carpet

If you haven’t already heard, Girls star Allison Williams has been chosen to star in NBC’s live broadcast of the musical version of Peter Pan. Peter Pan Live! follows the success of the network’s presentation of Sound of Music Live!, which aired last December and starred Carrie Underwood and True Blood‘s Stephen Moyer. Christopher Walken will star alongside Williams as Captain Hook. Allison is going to be a fantastic Peter Pan for plenty of reasons, including the following…

1) She is a classically trained, experienced singer.

Besides starring on television (and HBO of all places!) and being the daughter of beloved NBC Nightly News anchorman Brian Williams, the 26-year old actress graduated from Yale University in 2010 and is classically trained in singing. Anyone who has watched Girls knows that her character Marnie sings a lot. So you already know that Williams has a beautiful, lovely voice – sweet and perfectly on key. Allison has recorded several songs for the Girls soundtrack and filmed online videos that have garnered millions of views. She also was part of a singing YouTube series College Musical while at Yale.

2) She’s used to playing an adult that won’t grow up.

The characters on Girls are all narcissistic, self-obsessed, immature 25-year olds. And this is paraphrasing what writer/creator Lena Dunham constantly says about the characters she writes. They are constantly doing or thinking things that they should be too mature to do or think. So Williams should feel perfectly at home playing the ever-child Peter Pan.

3) She’s always dreamed of playing Peter Pan.

Williams informed her fans on Instagram of the casting by posting a photo of her at three years old, dressed as Peter Pan. “I have wanted to play Peter Pan since I was about three years old, so this is a dream come true,” said Williams. “It’s such an honor to be a part of this adventure, and I’m very excited to get to work with this extraordinarily talented team. And besides,” added Williams, “what could go wrong in a live televised production with simultaneous flying, sword fighting and singing?”

4) The girl can improv.

Allison is trained in improv as well, which will come in handy in case anything goes awry during the live production. While at Yale, Williams was a member of the improv comedy troupe “Just Add Water” for four years. Being in a improv troupe means she can think quickly on her feet, even if she’s stuck hanging up in the air.

5) She is pretty and likable.

Despite playing Marnie, who can be a total uptight you-know-what, Allison is able to maintain a likability to the character that many actresses wouldn’t be able to do. Allison is also so pretty to look at. That will help while watching the show, which will most likely be three hours, like its predecessor.
