Five Great Shows on CBS Daytime

Whether you’re a stay-at-home mother, a work-from-home professional, or just have a few days off to relax at home, there are some really great programs on TV during the daytime hours. While the major networks are often laden with mostly soap operas, there’s a lot more to daytime TV than just soap opera programs. Major network CBS has some great programming during the daytime hours – while it includes a couple of soap operas, it also features talk shows and the ever-entertaining game shows!

Here are five great shows you should be checking out on CBS daytime:

1. Let’s Make a Deal

For nearly five years, the Wayne Brady-hosted game show has been keeping daytime watchers entertained. The show is based around deals that are offered to members of the audience by Brady. Traders have to weigh the possibility of an offer for valuable prizes, or undesired items better known as “Zonks.” The show is also known for audience members wearing the most unusual, crazy and zany costumes – dressing up in that fashion increases their chances of being made a trader.

2. The Price is Right 

Debuting in 1972, this long-running game show has gone through only two hosts: Bob Barker who started on its debut up until 2007 when current host Drew Carey took over. On the show, the contestants compete to win cash and other prizes by guessing the price of the merchandise. It is ranked number 5 by TV Guide in its list of the 60 greatest game shows ever.

3. The Young and the Restless

First broadcast in 1973, Y&R is set in the fictional Wisconsin town of Genoa City. When it first began, the storyline centered around two core families: the wealthy Brooks and the poor Fosters. The show is a pioneer for soap operas, being one of the first to tackle sexuality in its characters’  romances. The series also explored often-serious social issues, like alcoholism, eating disorders and cancer. While soap operas have been on the decline and are becoming extinct, this one continues on, with 111 Daytime Emmys under its belt.

4. The Bold and the Beautiful 

Having premiered in 1987, B&B is a sister show to the creator’s other soap opera, Y&R. The show, set in Los Angeles, centers around the dramatics of the Forrester family and their business, fashion house Forrester Creations. In its run, the show has become the most-watched soap in the world of about 26.2 million views; it has also won 31 Daytime Emmy Awards.

5. The Talk 

Created by actress Sara Gilbert, the program, which is in its fourth season, is a talk show that features Julie Chen, Aisha Tyler, Sharon Osbourne and Sheryl Underwood. The all-female panel discusses the day’s biggest and most current headlines all while tying in the show’s general theme of motherhood/parenthood. They also boast celebrity interviews as well as mother/parent-targeted segments.
