Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin Announce Shocking Separation After 11 Years of Marriage

Say it isn’t so – we thought this one would surely last! After 11 years of marriage, A-list actress Gwyneth Paltrow and her Coldplay frontman husband Chris Martin have announced their shocking separation via a joint statement on Tuesday, March 25. The couple made the following announcement on the Iron Man 3 actress’ lifestyle blog, GOOP, with a post entitled “Conscious Uncoupling”:

“It is with hearts full of sadness that we have decided to separate. We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of it separated, to see what might have been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate. We are, however, and always will be a family, and in many ways we are closer than we have ever been. We are parents first and foremost, to two incredibly wonderful children and we ask for their and our space and privacy to be respected at this difficult time. We have always conducted our relationship privately, and we hope that as we consciously uncouple and coparent, we will be able to continue in the same manner.

Love,
Gwyneth & Chris”

Paltrow and Martin were married December 5, 2003 in a courthouse in Santa Barbara with no family or friends present. They have two kids together: 9-year-old daughter Apple and 7-year-old son Moses. In recent months, the couple’s standing seemed to be in jeopardy as Paltrow’s supposed affairs with several high-powered men were rumored to be the focus of a Vanity Fair profile. In 2013, she addressed the state of her marriage to Glamour UK, saying: “It’s hard being married. You go through great times, you go through terrible times. We’re the same as any couple.”
