Seven-Year-Old ‘Star Wars’ Fan Sends Letter to George Lucas Asking to Allow Jedi to Marry: See the Response

"Star Wars:

The force is strong with some kids and not so much with others. But it’s certainly strong with 7-year-old Colin Gilpatric. This young man is a huge Star Wars fan, and he is beside himself that the Jedi cannot get married. In fact, he’s so concerned with the issue of marriage being a no-go for the Jedi that he wrote George Lucas a letter asking him to change the rules of the Jedi. Aside from being totally adorable that a boy this age is concerned about marriage in the first place, we think that this kid is going to make a great husband one day. After all, he’s already thinking about it. But when he wrote a letter to George Lucas and company and his mom mailed it off for him, it was certain that they did not think that the young man would receive a response. However, they did.

“Dear George Lucas,

I don’t like that a Jedi cannot get married. I want to get married without becoming a Sith. Please change the rule. P.S. I want to come to Skywalker Ranch, please. Love, Colin,” is the note that the child wrote to George Lucas. The response he received was fantastic.

“Hello Colin,

Thank you so much for writing to us with your question. It sounds like the Force is strong with you, and you are showing great wisdom by asking your question. To be a Jedi is to truly know the value of friendship, of compassion, and of loyalty, and these are values important in a marriage. The Sith think inward, only of themselves. When you find someone that you can connect to in a selfless way, then you are on the path of the light, and the dark side will not take hold of you. With this goodness in your heart, you can be married. We enclosed a few gifts we hope you enjoy. Thank you again for writing to use. May the Force be with you! Sincerely, Your Friends at Lucasfilm”

What a great response to a child so concerned about something so obviously important to him.
