The Five Year Engagement: A Movie Review To Clue You In

The Five Year Engagement was an awesomely funny movie, there is no doubt about it.  But I will tell you that it is not one you want to watch for family movie night.  This should be an adults only movie which you are clued in on by the rating.  It also took awhile to get going and I was beginning to think that I had rented a dud.  But it turned out to be hilarious and kept my husband and I laughing for the whole two hours.

The Five Year Engagement stars Emily Blunt as Violet Barns and Jason Segel as Tom Soloman who are lovers who are going to get married… no really they are…. Things keep coming up to delay the wedding and they continue to postpone their engagement.  When Violet gets offered the job of her dreams Tom decides to leave his dream job so she can have what she has always wanted.  Resentment and an inability to adjust cause problems that linger and overshadow the relationship.

There is a delightful supporting cast of actors and actresses.  Allison Brie stars as Violet’s sister Susie who I especially loved because she and Emily Blunt looked enough like sisters that I really thought that was a possibility.  They were hilarious together especially when they do Cookie Monster and Elmo.  You have to see it to belive it.

You will cheer for this couple to finally make it to the altar and laugh out loud at their antics and the embarrassing situations that they find themselves in.

The Five Year Engagement isn’t the best choice for family night but it’s a great choice for couples night.  If you want a movie full of laughs and that is just a little bit naughty, rent The Five Year Engagement, sit back and enjoy.
