The View Says Goodbye To Barbara Walters

After five decades in the business, Barbara Walters taped her final episode of The View Thursday afternoon – but she was not flying solo on her last day. It seemed that every female anchor on network TV wanted to big farewell to the famed journalist, including all 11 of The View‘s co-hosts throughout the years. Everyone, including the original four Meredith Viera, Star Jones, Debbie Matenopoulos and Joy Behar, as well as Lisa Ling, Rosie O’Donnell, and Elisabeth Hassellbeck shared their favorite memories with the 84-year-old co-host.

After the reunion, Walters took her place with current hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Jenny McCarthy and Sherri Shepherd for a final show. Walters’ final episode boasted the likes of Hilary Clinton and Oprah Winfrey as guests.  When it was her time on the show, Winfrey went on the record to say she owed much of her career to Walters.

“You know in many ways I feel responsible for you,” Walters said.

“Well, you should!” Winfrey responded, adding, “I want to thank you for being a pioneer, and everything that that word means. It means being the first: the first…to knock down the door, to break down the barriers, to pave the road that we all walk on.”

At the end of the show, instead of saying goodbye, Walters said, “A bientot” – French for “See you later.” She then delivered her own version of the show’s sign-off.

“When all of that is done, I can take some time and enjoy my view,” she concluded.

Walters’ final episode of The View airs Friday at 11 a.m. on ABC.
