Facebook: 3 Reasons You Should Quit Now

Facebook is a great way to keep in touch with people who are important to you that might not live just down the street. Although, it’s also a great way to keep in touch with people who live just down the street – or your husband, who it just down the hall catching up on his “reading material” if you get my drift. Facebook has its benefits, but it also has its downfalls. If you’re on the verge of quitting this addicting and somewhat irritating form of social media, here are three good reasons people tend to quit Facebook.

More Time

One of the biggest reasons to quit Facebook is the amount of time you will save. How many times have you stayed up late or wasted time over coffee in the morning perusing your news feed or answering the dozen messages and wall posts on your page? The less time you spend on Facebook, the more time you have to get things done. You know the things I’m talking about; the ones you never seem to have time for. Maybe because you’re on Facebook?

It’s Depressing You

Experts believe that Facebook now causes depression. Why, you ask? Well, it seems that too many people have forgotten that Facebook is the kind of place in which you see only what other people want you to see – like the amazing photos of my husband and I on vacation, but not the photos of me rolling my eyes at him in airport security because it takes him about 73047 years to put everything back in his pockets, get his shoes back on, and put his belt back on, or me yelling at the navigation system in our rental car because it doesn’t agree with the directions I always print before we leave home (and my husband subsequently always agreeing with Siri and not with me, which then leads to my oft-heard lecture as to why he is the worst driver I’ve ever met in my whole entire life ever. Did I mention ever?). Essentially, if you cannot stop comparing your life to everyone else’s life, you might be depressed.

Too Much TMI

You will never make everyone happy. You might be the kind of person who thinks it’s fine when people post photos of what they’re eating (I use those as inspiration) or pictures of their children. Or you might be one of the people who think that it’s annoying (that’s why hiding people from your news feed is a great thing). However, some people just provide TMI. Really, just TMI. It’s wonderful that you are expecting a new baby and we would love to hear that amazing news. However, we do not need to know that your basal body temp is up and it is GO TIME. Mental images we just don’t need thankyouverymuch. By quitting Facebook, you might not feel so awkward shaking someone’s hand in the grocery store because you just read on her Facebook page that she used to think moms who picked their kids’ boogers are disgusting, but now that she’s a mom she does it all the time!
