How to Add an Elegant Twist to Western Style Dresses

Western Dress

Western style dresses are some of the most popular in fashion right now. It doesn’t make a difference if you’re from the west or you live in the big city; it’s a hot look and everyone is looking to recreate it. The only issue that some women have with this particular style dress is how to make it appropriate for a night out, a wedding or another dressier event. The western style dress is so much fun to play with, but it can be difficult to dress up if you don’t have just the right accessories.

Too much western wear can even look a little silly. Don’t fool yourself into thinking that wearing something western means you have to go western from head to toe. In fact, you don’t want to go head-to-toe western unless you’re living on a ranch in Texas. Take our advice; wear the dresses but choose the right accessories to dress them up.

Shoes

Western boots are fun and fabulous, but they can quickly turn your dressed-up western dress into something that’s only appropriate at the pumpkin patch; and you don’t want to show up at a wedding looking like that. To dress up a western dress, wear heels. Wedges are a bit more appropriate, but heels will work, too. For example, if you’re wearing a plaid dress that ties around the waist, don a pair of high wedges or simple pointed-toe heels and go for it.

Accessories

A cowboy hat might seem like the appropriate accessory for an ensemble such as this, but it’s not. Not unless you’re headed to a hoe-down. Instead, try something a bit more subtle, such as a brightly colored necklace and a great structured bag to pull the look together. Don’t be afraid to pile on the bracelets, either. Just remember to keep the rest of your jewelry simple if you go that route.

Makeup

One of the key factors in dressing up a western dress is your makeup. You want to keep it simple, elegant and classic. Otherwise you run the risk of looking a bit over dramatic or too simple. It’s a fine line to walk with this kind of dress for a fancier occasion. Pick one feature to play up and make it look good. For example, go with a bold red lip and focus on that, minimizing other makeup.
