Fashion Week 2014: Get the Low-Down on Fashion's Latest and Greatest

It’s that time of year again in the world of couture! New York’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week (better known as NYFW) is amidst us and this time the clothes are the stars of the show. Famed fashion designers showed off their Fall/Winter 2014 collections at their respective shows for the big event, while lesser-known designers awaited the perfect opportunity to make a name for themselves. Though the clothes are clearly the star, the other stars sparkle just as brightly. Sitting front row at the various designers’ Fall/Winter 2014 shows are a range of celebrities, from bloggers to Real Housewives to actresses on both the small and the big screens.

Here’s a recap of a few of the major designers’ shows:

DKNY – Short for Donna Karan New York for the fashion newbies, DKNY brought out its sporty side and a dark palette of colors. Many of her pieces included a letterman-style letter ‘D’ emblazoned on the right front in center or just off the side of the chest.

Celeb Sightings: Nickelodeon’s Victoria Justice and Zoey Deutch, as well as DJ Mia Moretti and 50 Shades of Grey‘s Rita Ora

Nicole Miller – Nicole Miller went very heavy on the black, studs and neoprene for her show, as well as feathers (including that of the peacock kind) EVERYWHERE: on vests fur skirts, dresses, and sweatshirts.

Celeb Sightings: Model-mogul Daisy Fuentes and True Blood‘s Carrie Preston

Rebecca Minkoff – Rebecca Minkoff has a way with keeping things in balance, proven by her collection that mixed soft with strong and light with heavy (i.e. a chiffon skirt under a big overcoat). Her show was not a far cry from her dependable knack for delivering a casual collection of mixed patterns and textures.

Celeb Sightings: Disney star Bella Thorne, AnnaSophia Robb, Girls star Zosia Mamet, Carrie Underwood and Anna Kendrick

The Red Dress Collection – Sponsored by the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women campaign, celebrities played the models, donning fire-engine red dresses down the runway at the Lincoln Center’s main theater. The highlight of the show: injured gold-medal skier Lindsay Vonn who rocked crutches just as good as she did a Cynthia Rowley body con.

Celeb Sightings: AnnaSophia Robb in Alice and Olivia, NeNe Leakes in Dolce & Gabbana, Orange is the New Black‘s Taryn Manning in Carmen Marc Valvo, celebrity chef Giada DiLaurentis in Carolina Herrera. Also spotted in attendance: Colbie Caillat, Leona Lewis and Joan Jett.
