Where to Find Cheap but Stylish Maternity Clothes

Cribs, car seats, bedding, décor, clothes, hospital bills, college (DIAPERS!!!): There’s enough to pay for when you are expecting a new baby. It’s almost annoying to have to also purchase maternity clothes that you’ll wear for only a few months. Because new first-time moms-to-be, let us assure you that you will not wear maternity clothes from the time you find out you’re pregnant until you give birth. You’ll probably only wear them the last few months. Maybe pants here and there, but mostly nothing else until the last few months.

Maternity clothes are expensive. A Pea in the Pod, for example, has gorgeous maternity clothes, but sometimes spending $150 on a dress you can only wear pregnant is difficult – even if you have no issue paying that otherwise. We have some suggestions for you expectant mamas that will help you find cheap maternity clothes, and we think you’ll like these ideas.

Buy the Classics

If you’re going to buy maternity clothes, buy the ones that will last more than one pregnancy (whether it’s your pregnancy, your sister’s or your girlfriends’). It’s often easier to justify spending money on something you know will get plenty of use than it is to buy something you might only wear for another three months. Go too trendy with your maternity wear and this isn’t exactly possible. Then share it. You can wear it for your subsequent pregnancies or you can share your clothes with friends or family when they’re expecting; or both.

Trade Clothes

Go in with your girlfriends to do a maternity clothes swap. It’s cheap because it’s free. You don’t have to pay for anything. You get to use the gorgeous clothes someone else paid for and vice versa. It’s a win-win for everyone, and you can always borrow or trade more when you have more babies, or someone else is having a baby.

Skip Maternity

There are some things you’ll have to buy from the maternity department – for most women. One such example is pants; you’ll eventually have to have those if you’re pregnant when it’s cold. If it’s summer, however, try wearing your maxi dresses (your above the knee dresses might become a bit too short as your belly grows). You can also wear tunics that aren’t maternity. Anything you have with an empire waist will work most of your pregnancy, and you won’t need to buy maternity clothes.
