Spring 2014 Fashion Trends to Watch Out For

It’s beginning to feel a lot like Spring time! Thanks to all the fashion weeks that occur (i.e. New York, Paris, London, Milan), certain trends pop up for every season. When it comes to trends, it’s important to go with your gut. If the look is something that rubs you the wrong way, then don’t worry about it, just let it pass you by. But if you feel like being exploratory, or see a look that inspires you, then trends can be a really fun way to push your wardrobe limits or recycle pieces that you already own while being totally fashion-forward! Here are the trends that were revealed for Spring 2014, straight from the Fashion Week runways.

Pretty Pastels

So it seems pretty obvious that pastels would be a trend for Spring. But hey, when designers show something repeatedly, then it is hip, modern, and totally fashionable. A rainbow of soft shades reigned throughout the collections, allowing you to pick whichever you like the best or find the most flattering. They look equally cool mixed together or paired with black, white, and shades of grey. Minty-green, baby blue, pale pink, and lilac – there is no limitation to how pastel-happy you want to be.

Tea Length and Full Skirts

How elegant and ladylike are full and tea length skirts? They harken back to the days of Mad Men and portray confidence and a flair for fashion. The ladylike hemline of a tea length can be just as modern as a mini and will make you look very on trend when paired with a cropped top, which beautifully offsets the length. You can pair them with any kind of shoes –  kitten heels, stilettos, ballet flats, or even Converse or wedge sneakers.

Bomber Jackets

The sportiness of a bomber jacket makes layering fun, bold, and edgy. They are made in adventurously colorful prints, luxe textures and fabrics, and with cool detailing, like mesh weaving and perforations. The bomber is the perfect compliment to the girliness of a dress or one of the season’s IT skirts.

Cropped Jackets

The boxy, short silhouette of a cropped jacket will spice up your jacket collection. They come in plethora of prints and textures so that you can easily find one to pair with your outfits. They look perfect with body-con or fit-and-flare dresses, tailored trousers, office-ready skirts, or your favorite pair of jeans.

Collarless Coats

Another strong spring layering piece is a streamlined coat, minus a collar or lapel. They come in every length.  You could always go safe with a neutral or solid color, but if you’re feeling up to it, definitely take a risk with fun prints or embellishment. The piece works for the office when paired with trousers or a pencil skirt or something sexier for a night on the town.

Wide-Leg Trousers

These mix fierce femininity with a masculine vibe and will have you looking damn good while doing it. Easy to wear and ultra-chic, billowy wide-leg trousers are huge this season and evoke strength and confidence. Look for a pair that’s higher-waisted and leaner on the flare to elongate your frame.
