Trend Alert 2012: Aztec Bags

Be a little funky this summer! Have a little more fun with your accessories and play with color, prints and a hippy vibe. Another of last year’s trends that have rolled over into the new year are the Aztec bags. Bold prints in a variety of colors, they’re on the shelves at some of the most shopped at stores like Target and Forever 21. Paired with the brights of the seasons, neons, these bags are adorable, versatile and usually quite roomy.

A bit bohemian and a bit exotic, the “Aztec” is a necessity for the spring and summer seasons, especially in the brighter hues. (*Hint: buying more muted shades can be paired with seasonal outfits year-round).

There are two ways I like to wear my boldest printed bags. First, setting off a monochromatic outfit with a big, jazzy Aztec tote or mixing up a funky printed peasant blouse with a smaller satchel.

Here are some that may suit your needs for the upcoming summer season:

Aztec Print Canvas Pouch Bag at Kmart ($12.59) – a very versatile bag. It would be great if you’re going to school or out on the weekends. Play it up with a maxi skirt and some leather flip-flops for the ultimate boho feel.

Paul’s Boutique Aztec Kimberly Clutch at asos ($72) – although a bit pricier, this clutch is of great quality and easily used for more than one season. Dress up your outfit with this bright little diddy and add some pumps or Patten leather wedges for a quick nighttime fix.

Mossimo Supply Co. Natural Aztec Hobo Bag at Target ($24.99) – with an over-the-shoulder strap and a bit more room for your everyday goodies this larger satchel is perfect for daytime wear. It’s a little more relaxed but still on the trendier side of things making it a perfect match for a pair of jean shorts, converse and an embellished tank.

I like to fancy myself a freelance creator, loving the pretty, the delicious and different. With a knack for fashion, style and a minor obsession with weddings, I've been professionally writing for the past few years and hopes to continue to explore different outlets to contribute to.
