Five Signs You’re Spending Way too Much Time on Facebook

Social media; what a love/hate relationship so many of us have with social media. If you use Facebook or other forms of social media, ask yourself why you do it. Is it to show off how much success you’ve had in life (admit it, we all do it)? Is it to reconnect with old friends? Is it to keep your long-distances friends and family updated with new pictures of the family and the kids so that you don’t have to do the mailing photos and emailing thing (I’m ashamed to admit this, but yes)? Is it so you can see what other people are up to? The truth is that we all have our reasons for using social media as we do, and some of us are more than just a little addicted. In fact, Facebook is so addicting that many of us waste hours of our day online and it’s just because we want to keep up-to-date as much as possible. Here are five signs you’re spending entirely too much time on Facebook.

You Know Strangers in Public

When you attend an event and you can look at your spouse and say, “See that woman over there? She…” because you see her information online even though you’ve never met her.

You Think in Status Updates

When something happens in life and you immediately think that this would be hilarious as an update, you might have a problem with Facebook.

You Think in Hashtags

Facebook isn’t even for hashtag use, but you think in this manner regardless. For example, you’re walking through the store when the couple in front of you gets into a heated argument and it gets ugly and you find yourself thinking, “Hashtag, thank goodness I’m not inappropriate in public,” before pretending it never happened.

You Know Everything

It’s one thing to know personal details about your friends lives when you speak of them, but it is inappropriate to know the details of your old friends whom you haven’t seen in 20 years personal divorce or baby birth.

You Know When Someone’s Pregnant before They Announce It

And this is not because they announced it online. It’s because you’ve seen so many pregnancy announcements on Facebook that you recognize the ‘vague-book’ posts that will lead up to the big announcement.
