Four Cliches That are Actually True

We’ve all heard the old clichés. Your mom said them to you growing up. Your boss uses them in meetings. Your sister spouts them off like she’s Oprah. You say them to your kids and you use them to make you feel better. However, you probably don’t put much stock in those. I’m here to tell you that there are a few old clichés that are actually true, and you should keep them in mind.

It’s Who You Know

A great deal of your life and your successes happen because of who you know. The more people you add to your network, the more chances you have of expanding your own horizon and your own future. You’ll get farther in life when you know the right people.

Looks Can Be Deceiving

Just because someone looks clean, high-class, and intelligent doesn’t mean they are. The man who looks smart and safe could be a serial killer while the man with all the tattoos and the motorcycle is the biggest, kindness teddy bear of a man in the world. Don’t judge people on their looks; they’re deceiving.

Actions Speak Louder Than Words

You can say what you’re going to do or you can do what you’re going to do. Talking about it is one thing, but if you never do it, you won’t get anywhere by talking about it. People will believe you when they see you do something, not when they hear you say you’re going to do something.

Everything Happens for a Reason

It’s hard to see why something happens in the moment, but it’s easy to look back in a few weeks or months and see why things happened for the reason that they did. Perhaps you lost your job and can’t understand how this is something that happened for a reason, but when you have a better job and a better life, you’ll understand.
