Growing Up: Make Sure You’re Happy With Who You’ve Become

Growing up is something we all do, every day (well, most of us do). As my 30th birthday approaches in one month, I spend a lot of time thinking about whether or not I’ve grown up in a manner that makes me feel good about myself and whether or not I’ll continue to grow up in a manner that pleases me. I think it’s safe to say that despite my mistakes and my occasional bouts of immaturity – something we’re all prone to from time to time – I’m happy with myself. I make mistakes but rather than letting them tear me down, I learn from them and simply don’t make the same mistake twice. That in mind, here are three things about growing up we should all consider.

Mistakes Are Good

No, it’s not easy to deal with mistakes we’ve made. We are embarrassed, ashamed, upset and we wish we could go back in time and make a different decision. However, in order to grow up and become a better person, we need to understand that simply owning up to our mistakes is much more reasonable. We receive the best type of education from our mistakes; we see how they affect others, how they affect us and how to avoid making them in the future.

As Long As You Are Happy It’s Okay

Sometimes we live a little bit for others, and that’s okay. For the most part, however, we need to live for ourselves. We need to be the kind of people we like. As long as you are happy with how you’ve turned out, it doesn’t really matter how anyone else feels about you.

No One Loves Their Past

If you look at your high school yearbook right now, you’ll undoubtedly do so with embarrassment and horror over your hairstyle, your clothing and probably a number of other things. Guess what? Your hair and clothes aren’t the only embarrassing things from your past. No one loves how they looked in the past and we probably don’t always love the way we behaved in the past. Guess what? That’s the great thing about the past; it’s over and we don’t have to relive it if we don’t want to. It’s what makes growing up so amazing.
