How to Get Rid of Jealousy in Your Life

Jealousy is a dirty, dirty word and an even worse feeling. To be jealous means that you are unhappy with your life in some aspect; being unhappy means you aren’t living to your fullest potential. Some people feel envy and jealousy. When that happens, you have to handle that emotion and put an end to your negativity. It’s not as hard as it seems to get rid of jealousy.

Avoid Negative Thoughts

One way to handle jealousy is to banish your negative thoughts. This might sound easier said than done, but it’s not so bad. For example, if you’re jealous that your man is at a work conference with his hot new coworker while you’re stuck at home, don’t waste time thinking that she’s probably moving in on him or that he’s noticing how hot she is over post-meeting cocktails. Jealousy, especially in relationships, is ugly and pointless.

Use Your Jealousy

If you feel envious of someone because they have something you don’t; a corner office, a better job, a bigger bank account, a bigger house, do something about it. Use your jealousy to help motivate you to make changes to your own life. If you want what they have, ask yourself how you can get it. This might mean going back to school, having the courage to apply for more jobs, to network, and to take risks.

Appreciate Your Life

Jealousy is natural from time to time, but just because you’re jealous that your best friend is headed to Paris on her honeymoon and you’re stuck at work doesn’t make you a bad person. It does, however, mean you need to take a few minutes to think about your own life and all the things you have to appreciated, such as your family, friends, and all the other things you love so much.
