Reasons To Make Visiting Your Grandparents A Priority

If you are fortunate enough to still have grandparents as an adult, consider that visiting your grandparents is a privilege.  Many people do not have grandparents into their adulthood.  It is very hard to find time for visiting your grandparents when you have a job, a family and a home to take care of but it needs to be a priority, for several reasons.

You don’t want to have regrets about the time that you didn’t spend with your grandparents.  Having lost all four of mine, although I did visit my grandparents, I wish I had spent more time with them.  Treasure every moment that you have together.

Consider it a kindness.  Not only is visiting your grandparents a pleasure for you but also for them.  Grandparents can get lonely, especially if they have already lost their spouse.  They look forward to your visits and it can greatly lift their spirits.  Another way to think about this is to consider how often you would want your grandchildren to visit you.  You are setting an example for future generations when you take time for visiting your grandparents.

Grandparents have so much valuable wisdom to share with us.  Just think of the lifetime they have lived through.  They have more than likely lived through some very important historical events that they can share their firsthand memories of.  They probably have advice for you on marriage and children if you will take time to listen to them.  They can tell you all about an older way of living that we know nothing about.  My grandmothers had a lot of valuable knowledge about gardening, canning, quilting and many other things.

Make visiting your grandparents a priority.  When you do, you will find that your family enjoys and looks forward to these visits.  It may even become your favorite outing.
