New Wedding Etiquette Rules for Guests

Wedding season is fast approaching and that means it’s time to dust off your finest wedding attire – no white unless you’re the bride – and get your dance shoes ready. While you know what’s expected of you as a wedding guest, you might still commit one of the sinful wedding faux pas, such as not knowing what etiquette rules are still the same and which ones have changed with the times.

Sharing

With your smart phone in your hand and your internet connection always on, you might make one of the biggest wedding faux pas there is; sharing pictures of the bride and groom on their big day before they can share pictures of themselves on their big day. Take all the pictures you want, just remember that it’s up to the bride and groom to share theirs before you go posting photos on your Facebook or Twitter feed.

Using Your Phone for Anything Other Than a Camera

It’s okay to bust out your phone to take pictures, but don’t use it throughout the wedding or the ceremony. Your friends invited you to watch them get married, not to spend every five minutes checking your emails, sending texts and posting status updates about the evening’s events.

RSVP

This is not a new etiquette rule, but it’s one that so many people choose to ignore – or maybe people cannot read anymore. When the RSVP card comes in the mail, send it back ASAP. The bride and groom did not send it to you to ignore. If they want your response, it is for a reason. Additionally, if it is not addressed to you and a guest, do not RSVP for more than just yourself should you choose to go.

For the Bride

It’s okay to post pictures of your ring when he pops the big question. Facebook and Twitter are a great way for you to stay in touch with and keep up-to-date the people you don’t see often and almost everyone wants to see a picture of the ring. It’s not bragging.
